TOUR OVERVIEW

This 3-day horse riding tour is designed for experienced riders only. It follows a demanding mountain route through some of the most beautiful and remote landscapes of Upper Svaneti: from Mestia to Adishi, from Adishi to Ushguli, and then from Ushguli to Kala via the Svaneti Range.

This is not a beginner-friendly riding experience. The route includes long riding days, steep mountain terrain, narrow paths, river valleys, highland pastures, remote village sections, and weather exposure. Riders must be confident in controlling a horse independently in mountain conditions and comfortable spending several hours per day in the saddle.

The tour includes horses, local horse guides, and guesthouse accommodation. For safety and proper group management, one horse guide is provided per five travelers. The route combines authentic village life, alpine scenery, medieval towers, open ridgelines, and rarely visited sections of Svaneti that are best experienced on horseback.

TOUR BY DAY

Day 1: Mestia – Adishi

The tour starts in Mestia, where you meet the horse guide, receive a route briefing, and prepare the horses. After checking equipment and matching riders with horses, the route begins toward the direction of Adishi.

The ride leaves the Mestia area and gradually enters more remote mountain scenery. Depending on the exact route and trail conditions, the day may include forest paths, open slopes, village tracks, and panoramic views over the surrounding valleys. As you approach Adishi, the landscape becomes quieter and more dramatic, with traditional Svan towers and high mountains framing the village.

Overnight in a local guesthouse in Adishi.

Day 2: Adishi – Ushguli

The second day is one of the most impressive and demanding parts of the route. From Adishi, the ride continues through high mountain terrain toward Ushguli. The landscape is wild and open, with glacier-fed rivers, alpine meadows, rocky slopes, and views of the Greater Caucasus.

This section requires strong riding confidence. Trail and river conditions can change depending on weather and season, so the horse guide will choose the safest practical route. Riders must be ready for uneven terrain, possible dismounting in difficult sections, and a full mountain day in the saddle.

The day ends in Ushguli, one of the highest inhabited settlements in Europe and one of the most atmospheric places in Svaneti. Its stone houses, medieval towers, and views toward Shkhara make it a memorable overnight stop.

Overnight in a local guesthouse in Ushguli.

Day 3: Ushguli – Kala via the Svaneti Range

The final riding day follows a spectacular route from Ushguli toward Kala via the Svaneti Range. This section is intended for expert riders because it includes exposed mountain terrain, elevation changes, remote paths, and long stretches away from easy vehicle access.

The route offers wide views over Upper Svaneti, high pastures, mountain ridges, and traditional villages below. It is one of the strongest scenic sections of the tour, but it also requires discipline, attention, and trust in the horse guide’s judgment. Weather conditions can influence the exact route and timing.

The tour ends in the Kala area. Depending on your onward plan, return transfer or additional arrangements can be organized separately.
