TOUR OVERVIEW

The Shdugra Waterfall hike is one of the most beautiful day trips from Mestia, especially for travelers who want to see Svaneti’s wild nature beyond the main tourist routes. The tour takes you to the Becho Valley, one of the most scenic areas near Mount Ushba, with high mountain slopes, forest trails, alpine meadows, and the powerful Shdugra Waterfall hidden deep in the valley.

The day starts with private transport from Mestia to Mazeri village. The drive itself is already part of the experience: the road passes through quiet Svan villages and opens toward the dramatic Becho Valley, where the twin peaks of Ushba dominate the landscape in clear weather.

From Mazeri, the hiking route follows the valley toward the waterfall. The trail passes through forest, open mountain scenery, and river sections before reaching the impressive Shdugra Waterfall. The waterfall is strong, cold, and dramatic, falling from the steep rocky slopes above the valley. It is a perfect hike for travelers who want an active day in nature, with enough challenge to feel rewarding but without the commitment of a multi-day trek.

This tour includes transport from Mestia to Mazeri and back, as well as a local guide who leads the hike, manages the route, and helps adjust the pace according to the group.

TOUR BY DAY

Start from Mestia

The tour begins in Mestia in the morning. Your guide and driver meet you at your accommodation or an agreed meeting point. After a short briefing, you leave Mestia by vehicle and drive toward Mazeri village in the Becho Valley.

Drive to Mazeri

The transfer from Mestia to Mazeri takes you through rural Svaneti landscapes, small villages, forested slopes, and mountain views. In clear weather, the Becho Valley offers some of the best views of Mount Ushba, one of the most iconic peaks of the Caucasus.

Start of the hike

The hike begins near Mazeri. The first part of the trail leads through green valley scenery and forest sections. The route is peaceful and less crowded than some of the more popular trails around Mestia, which makes it a good choice for travelers looking for a quieter nature experience.

Hiking through Becho Valley

As the trail continues deeper into the valley, the landscape becomes more dramatic. You walk near mountain streams, rocky slopes, and alpine vegetation, with high peaks rising above the valley. Depending on the season, the route may include muddy or wet sections, so proper hiking shoes are recommended.

Shdugra Waterfall

After the main hiking section, you reach Shdugra Waterfall. The waterfall is powerful and refreshing, especially on warm summer days. There will be time to rest, take photos, and enjoy the scenery before starting the return hike.

Return to Mazeri and transfer back to Mestia

After visiting the waterfall, you return by the same trail toward Mazeri. The vehicle meets you there, and you drive back to Mestia. Arrival in Mestia is usually in the afternoon or early evening, depending on the group pace and time spent near the waterfall.
